Family petitions

Keeping a family under one roof

A citizen or permanent resident can ask for a spouse, parent, child or sibling to join them. The forms look short. The rules about who waits, for how long and what can go wrong are not.

We begin by checking who qualifies and in which category, whether you will apply here or at a consulate, and whether anything in your past needs a waiver. Then we prepare the petition, the green card application and the work permit that goes with it, and we go with you to the interview.

If someone in your family has been hurt by a spouse, a parent or a crime, there are separate paths that do not need that person's help. Ask us about them in private.

What we handle

  • Petitions for spouses, parents, children and siblings

  • Green card applications inside the United States

  • Interviews at a consulate abroad

  • Waivers for past immigration problems

  • Protection for people hurt by a relative or a crime

  • Renewing or replacing a green card

Where it starts

Three places families begin

  • A marriage to a citizen

A spouse can usually apply without leaving the country. We gather proof that the marriage is real and prepare you both for the interview.

  • A parent, child or sibling abroad

Some petitions are approved quickly and then wait years for a visa number. We explain the line and keep your file current while you wait.

  • A card that is lost or expiring

Renewals and replacements should be filed well before the date. Bring what you have and we will check the dates with you.
